Different Types

There are different kinds of acne: whiteheads, blackheads, papules (red bumps), pustules, and cysts. Knowing what kind of acne one has helps determine the best course of treatment. Whiteheads are fairly small blemishes with white “heads” caused by natural oil (sebum) clogging the follicles. Blackheads are also small, but are more flat and have the appearance of tiny black dots. Papules are medium in size, red, and slightly swollen due to inflammation. Pustules resemble papules, but they contain pus, and may be painful to the touch. Cystic acne is larger and more severe. It is usually red, raised, and can last for months. This type can cause more damage and scarring if left untreated. Treatment for acne in Dallas varies from patient to patient. It can include extraction, topicals, oral medication, facial cleansers, needling, LED (light emitting diode), and laser therapy. Seek a qualified, board certified dermatologist for an evaluation of your skin in order to receive the appropriate treatment for optimal results.
