Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments will it take?

Multiple treatments are often needed to achieve the desired results for the tattoo removal and usually require a MINIMUM of 6-10 treatments for our Dallas patients. The number of treatments will vary depending on the depth, color(s), and age of the tattoo. Darker colors are traditionally easier to treat. Some colors are extremely difficult or even impossible to treat. Finally, the type of laser and the available wavelengths can play an important role. Darker colors are traditionally easier to treat. Is laser tattoo removal treatment painful?

During your laser treatment, there may be some minor discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a series of “rubber bands snapping” on to the skin. We can often reduce or eliminate the discomfort by using topical numbing medication and cooling the treated area with an air-cooling device.

Are there any side effects?

Some minor crusting and/or blistering may occur for several days after treatment for our Dallas patients. Scarring with laser tattoo removal is rare. Other possible side effects include but are not limited to whitening or darkening of the skin. Patients with darker skin are at higher risk for these side effects.
