Proper Makeup Removal

Jun 26, 2018 - By Dr. Martin Kassir

If you haven’t already guessed it, the ultimate makeup mistake you could make is to not remove your makeup before bed. We’re not talking about slipping up once or twice; we’re talking about consistently skipping makeup removal before bed because you’re too tired or lazy. Ignoring makeup removal in the evening will seriously restrict your skin’s ability to rejuvenate itself overnight. You will also show the signs of skin aging sooner if you consistently skip makeup removal. Sleeping with your makeup on is not healthy for your pores, which can become the perfect breeding ground for breakouts. When glowing, younger-looking skin is on the line, it’s just not worth the risk. Always make the trip to your sink or shower to cleanse your face before bed.

Tips That May Help

Remove your makeup as soon as you come home if you know you aren’t going out later that evening.  That way it’s one last thing at the end of your already long day.

Even if only sunscreen has been applied, you still need to cleanse your skin.  Germs, dust and oil can accumulate over several hours and there is no need to smother your skin while you sleep.

Keep a few remover wipes in your tote or handbag for quick removal.
