Hydration

Lotion or Cream? What is the better choice for you

Creams and lotions both serve as moisturizers. The main difference between the two is the amount of oil.  Creams always will have more added oils to them verses a lotion which is a lightweight formula.  The additional oil makes creams thicker and more of an emollient than any lotion.  Cream, butters, and balms are thicker which usually means they have to be applied less often.

Many creams are often formulated with rich oils such as shea, cocoa, or avocado oil.  Creams are more ideally used in the winter when there is less moisture in the air, or in dry climates.  Lotions typically have lighter formulated ingredients such as goat’s milk, coconut milk, or purified water.  Lotions are most beneficial to keep skin hydrated with continued repeated application.
