One of the most exciting technologies in dermatology
The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial is one of the most exciting dermatology technologies available. It addresses sun damage, redness, rosacea, and uneven skin tone in a series of comfortable, non-invasive treatments. At Kassir Dermatology, IPL is one of our most requested treatments for patients seeking a refreshed, more even complexion without downtime.
IPL delivers broad-spectrum light energy in precise pulses that are absorbed by pigment (melanin) and blood vessels in the skin. This selectively heats and destroys unwanted pigmentation and broken capillaries while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected. The light also stimulates collagen production for improved skin texture.
IPL is most effective for patients with fair to medium skin tones who have sun damage, redness, rosacea, or uneven pigmentation. It is not recommended for very dark skin tones or active tans. A consultation is required to assess candidacy.
A series of 3–5 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart is typically recommended. Treated pigment may temporarily darken before flaking off. Mild redness resolves within a few hours. Most patients see significant improvement after their first session.
No. IPL uses broad-spectrum light (multiple wavelengths), while lasers use a single wavelength. IPL is more versatile for treating multiple concerns simultaneously.
Most patients benefit from a series of 3–5 treatments. Maintenance sessions once or twice a year help preserve results.
